Camborne’s spectacular real Christmas tree is at the centre of the town’s festive and very impressive 2019 lights display and hundreds of people crowded into Commercial Square to see it switched on for the first time.
The job of pushing the big red button on stage fell to BID (Business Improvement District) Chair Sharron Lipscombe-Manley, Apollo’s Majestic Bingo Managing Director Mark Jepp, Mayor of Camborne David Wilkins and, last but never least, Father Christmas himself.
Before that, the day’s programme of entertainment, compered by Keith Sparrow, included music from Camborne Youth and JC Band, the Holman Climax Male Voice Choir, stilt walkers dressed up as the ghosts of Christmas past and Christmas present before a parade of stunning handmade lanterns was led through the town’s streets by the Combined Schools’ Samba Band and the Combined Boys’ and Girls’ Brigade Band.
“We were thrilled that so many people turned out to watch the event and take part in the celebrations,” said BID Manager Anna Pascoe. “It was very touching to receive the support of many local businesses and groups to help with the event, in particular Apollo Bingo, RR Transport, Macsalvors, Combined Tree Services, Speedy Hire, Firecrest Fire Protection and the Rainbows, Brownies, Guides and Boys Brigade.
