Project A-Void is one of eleven projects awarded a total of £23.7m in Town Deal funding from HM Government – the highest amount in Cornwall. BID Camborne applied for and was successful in securing £507,000 to deliver Project A-Void Phase Two.
The project consists of three elements
- Grant Scheme – local businesses would be able to apply for up to £5,000 of grant, to improve and transform their properties. With a focus on filling empty commercial properties, helping pop-ups, scale-ups and start-ups. For more information regarding the grant scheme click here
- Prosperity Accelerator Partnership – A joined-up working plan to link businesses, developers and education and training providers.
- Branded Quarters & Gateway Marking – This element of the project will create branded zones of Camborne Town centre, linked to both existing and historic uses and see the installation of vibrant welcome signage for
Branded Quarters & Gateway Marking | Design Discovery Workshops
BID Camborne ran two design and discovery workshops and following those workshops, the community were inivited to offer their thoughts and suggestions regarding branded quarters in town and new signage.
Signage Consultation
The consultation has now ended and we thank all those who participated. The suggestions and feedback received will be incorporated into the final designs and we will share these with you in the new year.

GWR Customer and Community Fund | Project Info
Camborne Business Improvement District (BID Camborne) has been successful in achieving GWR Customer & Community funding to deliver a landmark creative installation at Camborne Railway station.
Following some interviews, we have appointed Dan Peppiatt and Alec Rice to create an exciting art installation at Camborne Railway station.
Dan Peppiatt
Dan is working on a new sculpture for Camborne which will be placed at Camborne train station. The community are invited to help create the background story for the scuplture through drawings, stories and poems.
What’s inside the egg?
It’s origins go back deep in time and deep underground in one of many mines that crisscross the depths of Cornwall like a great subterranean spider’s web to one very special day – a day that had begun just like any other. An unsuspecting miner working alone in one of the tunnels chipped absently away at the rock face with his pick as he had done countless times before this time, as the spoil of rocks fell away it wasn’t the hoped for glint of orange copper that was exposed but instead the smooth, hard and perfectly elliptical outline of an egg.
Where has it been since? What is in the egg? And why has it hatched now?
These are the riddles we would love for you to uncover and help us with.
Maybe you might write a lost diary entry of that miner – recently discovered during a house renovation?
Could it be that you are a great great grandchild of that very miner and it has been hidden under the floorboards all these years? Or could it be that you know what’s inside and were there when it hatched out?

Treasure Donations -this has now closed.
If you arent a storyteller or an artist but might have some small pieces of Camborne’s history lying about in the shed – maybe an old cog from one of Holman’s tools or something else small that we can include, then you can drop it to one of these ‘treasure points’ in town.

Alec Rice
Alec is working on a colourful mosiac piece for the train station. The community were invited to attend a ‘making day’ on 18th November to help produce some tiles for the art installation.
And a community construction day is planned at Create CIC on 6th January 2024, 10.30am-midday and 1.30pm-4pm.
