BID Camborne has introduced a number of measures to reduce the impact of COVID-19 on Camborne.
These include contacting every business to see what support they need; explaining the financial help available from the Government; writing to George Eustice MP to lobby for urgent additional support for the town; asking about the possibility of bringing forward the £25m earmarked for Camborne as part of the Cornwall Council Towns Fund and calling for the match funding requirement to be cancelled; working with other BID colleagues throughout the South West and beyond to ask Government to fund a one year levy payment holiday so that BIDs businesses can survive and BID can continue to support the town and its traders.
“This is an extremely tough time for everyone and we are doing all that we can to support local businesses, reduce risk and achieve a COVID-free Camborne, Cornwall and country as quickly as possible,” said BID Camborne manager Anna Pascoe. “I have just walked around the main streets and there were still many people out and about, very few of whom were practising social distancing. It’s important that we don’t pass judgement on other people, as it is calm and co-operation that will help us now, not anger or stress.
“Anyone who isn’t providing an essential service should follow the Government’s guidance to stay at home. That way, fewer people will die and we can collectively get on with repairing our lives sooner than might otherwise be the case. Sadly, that’s the reality.”
