BID status has got Camborne back on the road to success. Businesses are reporting a consistent increase in sales with positive forecasts and the town has been judged an exciting and inviting destination – one of the top ten Cornish gems on the rise – by a prestigious holiday ‘blogger’. Since it began four years ago, BID Camborne has worked hard to improve the town – making it a great place to live, work and visit. Many of the improvements the BID team has introduced have been to the general environment. Literally miles of colourful bunting, banners and flags decorate the main shopping areas creating a cheerful festival feel, graffiti has been removed, cleanliness in public areas has been improved and long term vacant shops are now covered with attractive and informative displays. Not only have general standards in Camborne been raised by the BID, but also its profile. The town now has its first ever website www.cambornetown.com and uses a range of social media platforms to spread the news – Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Google+ and You Tube. A complete rebrand has included the introduction of the #ChooseCamborne and Shop Local campaigns, plus the production of an annually updated Camborne Town Guide packed with details and information about shops, businesses, restaurants parking and events. It’s also a handy size for visitors to carry with them. A key event BID has developed and organised is Christmas in Camborne. They are responsible for the Christmas lights display, the Christmas tree in Commercial Square, free parking during selected weekends on the run-up to Christmas and the extremely popular Christmas Lights Switch-On event that draws thousands of extra shoppers to the town centre. “Improving Camborne for its local population has drawn shoppers back to the town,” said George Le Hunte, Chairman of BID Camborne . “The improvements have also brought in new major businesses such as Premier Inn, Costa Coffee and Wetherspoon Hotel. A combination of these successes has made Camborne more vibrant, more prosperous and ultimately a more attractive destination for a wider audience. “Managed by Mel Martin and supported by the Board of Directors, BID Camborne has achieved a phenomenal amount in a relatively short space of time – making a difference that is being noticed locally, regionally and nationally. The future for Camborne is looking very bright indeed.”
