With the big Christmas lights switch on taking place this Saturday, the festive spirit is sweeping through the town as we prepare for another fantastic month of events. So what can locals and visitors to Camborne look forward to this Christmas?
The Christmas lights switch on
Following a lot of hard work and organisation, the town’s real Christmas tree tradition is returning in all its glory this year. Kindly sponsored by Apollo Bingo, the 25 foot Nordman spruce will be taking centre stage on Saturday 24th November at a special Christmas lights event compered by Man Engine’s Artistic Director, Will Coleman.
Taking place in Commercial Square the town will be buzzing with excitement as the entertainment on stage kicks off at 2.30pm with performances from Proper Job, Holman’s Choir and Camborne Band. The children’s parade will be taking place at 4.45pm, when the six local schools that created the fence panels surrounding the Christmas tree with local artist Tony Minnion, will be making their way to the square waving flags and led by Father Christmas and a band, before the big lights switch on takes place at 5pm.
The Lantern Parade
Taking place at 6.30pm on Wednesday 19th December, the parade will make its way from St Meriadoc Infant School, through the town, lighting up the streets as it goes with music and an array of fantastic illuminated lanterns. The perfect way to get into the festive spirit, wrap up warm and come along to join the fun!
FREE Santa’s Grotto
A must for every family at Christmas, head over to Bear Necessities this December and enjoy a visit to Santa’s Grotto. Taking place each Saturday between 11am-3pm from 1st-22nd December, there are plenty of opportunities for the kids to meet Father Christmas in the run up to the big day. Entry is free, however donations for the Camborne & Redruth Lions – who have kindly supported this project – and Christmas in Camborne will be gratefully received. A big thank you must also go to Tesco for their funding through the blue token scheme.
