Owner Michelle Slade in Pastiche
Pastiche in Trelowarren Street is candle cornucopia. Enveloped in an intoxicating aroma of 100% pure essential oils and incense, it stocks a huge range of products from floating candles, aromatherapy and herbal soaps to scented pillars and all the candle-related accessories you could wish for. It’s the perfect place to find Christmas gifts.
Owner Michele Slade is passionate about candles and always has been. A Redruth girl, she left Cornwall for London and spent the next 30 years working in the merchandising department of the old Wembley Stadium and then at prestigious Harrow School. During that time she set up Pastiche as a business and sold candles at county shows and craft markets during weekends and holidays. After the death of her parents, Michele came back home to Cornwall to open her own shop.
She said: “When I was a little girl Camborne was a big booming town. It’s been through some difficult times but it’s definitely enjoying a revival and what a great place to shop with such an exciting mix of independent businesses and popular chain stores. It was the obvious choice when I was looking for a place to give Pastiche a permanent base.
“I love candles – they give such a gentle, relaxing and atmospheric light and I think the majority of people agree with me. Last year a young man came in asking for some help. He wanted to buy enough candles to write ‘will you marry me’. The plan was to set them out in a beachside cave he knew then take his girlfriend there. I’d love to know what happened.”
Pastiche is open 9am until 5pm, Monday to Saturday and also has an online shop www.pastiche-uk.net
